The Urmetazoan
Lyla made her Barrington Stage Company debut originating the role of Young Alice in the North American premiere of The Urmetazoan, a new play by British playwright Alex Rugman, directed by Obie and Drama Desk Award-winning director Jack Serio.
Set in the near future, The Urmetazoan explores the extraordinary bond between two sisters as one prepares to leave Earth on a one-way journey to Mars. Lyla appears alongside Beatrix Flynn-Powell (Young Abigail), bringing the sisters' childhood selves to life onstage as they lie beneath the stars, imagining a universe of their own. Their playful exchange establishes a poignant foundation for a story about love, memory, separation, and the connections that endure across time and space.
This production features Julia Chan as Alice, Francesca Carpanini as Abigail, and Justin Mark as Will.
Presented as part of Barrington Stage Company's New Works Series, The Urmetazoan runs September 30 – October 25, 2026, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, alongside its world premiere at London's Hampstead Theatre.
